Sample ranked plan

An excerpt from the ranked action plan an audit delivers: three fixes, each with the URLs or templates it affects, what to change, its impact and effort, and the number to watch afterwards.

The site is the earlier version of this one, audit-content.com, audited on 27 October 2026 from its Search Console data (16 June 2025 to 24 October 2026), a crawl of 165 URLs and URL Inspection of the same URLs. That site has since been replaced, so the URLs below now redirect.

How the work is ranked

I rank the work in three groups: indexing blockers first, then high impact work that needs no large project, then high impact work that does.

1. The blog post template publishes an empty page

Group: indexing blocker. The pages do not render.

Affected

The blog post template, src/theme/BlogPostPage/index.tsx, and every post it renders:

  • /blog/technical-seo-audit-checklist/
  • /blog/how-to-audit-content-for-seo/
  • /blog/content-audit-maturity-model/
  • /blog/content-roi-measurement-guide/
  • /blog/why-content-not-converting-b2b-saas/

What I found

Each post answers 200, but the page holds the navigation and nothing else: the main content area is empty and there is no H1, both in the HTML the server sends and after JavaScript runs in a browser. The articles exist in the repository, 1,078 to 2,969 words each counting the front matter. URL Inspection reports one of the five as indexed (/blog/content-audit-maturity-model/, last crawled 2026-09-14). That page is empty today and the template has not changed since 2025-06-23, so the copy Google crawled was most likely empty too. The other four are not indexed.

What to change

In src/theme/BlogPostPage/index.tsx, the wrapper BlogPostPageMetadata returns <Layout title={title} description={description} /> and drops the article that the page passes to it. Render the article inside Layout, or delete the customized component and use the theme's default. Rebuild, open the source of each post and check that its text and one H1 are there. Then request indexing for the five URLs in Search Console.

Impact: medium

This is first because it is the only problem I found that stops pages from rendering at all, and because it sits in a template: every post published through it comes out empty. The search stake today is modest. The five posts earned 1,649 impressions in 16 months, 1,644 of them on the technical SEO audit checklist, and none since 2026-02-23.

Effort: low

One component file, one rebuild, a check of five pages.

Number to watch

  • Words in the main content area of the five posts: 0 on all five on 2026-10-27. After the fix each should carry its article.
  • Indexed posts in URL Inspection: 1 of 5 on 2026-10-27.
  • Search Console impressions on the five post URLs: 0 from 2026-07-27 to 2026-10-24.

What the data does not settle

I read the cause in the repository and did not rebuild the site, so I have not seen the corrected output. If the live site was built from a different commit, the cause may differ; the check of the live page source is what counts.

2. Five pages compete for “content audit services”

Group: high impact, lower effort.

Affected

  • / (title “Content Audit Services | audit-content”)
  • /services/content-audit/ (same title)
  • /content-audit/ (same title)
  • /get-started/ (“Get Started with Content Audit Services”)
  • /content-audit-services-guide/ (“Complete Guide to Content Audit Services”)
  • The site footer, src/components/CustomFooter.tsx, which links three of these pages in their redirecting form without the trailing slash

What I found

Three pages share one title and the other two repeat the phrase in theirs. In the 16 months to 2026-10-15 Google showed six different URLs for “content audit services”. From 2026-02-01 to 2026-05-10 the home page averaged position 9.9 for it, with 1,454 impressions and 2 clicks. From 2026-05-18 to 2026-10-24 it averaged 56.6. In the last 90 days Google showed /get-started/ most often (148 impressions, position 94.4), then /content-audit-services-guide without the slash (91 impressions, position 81.3), a URL that redirects, then the home page (27 impressions, position 58.6). Of the five pages Google indexes two today, / and /get-started/. The service page /services/content-audit/ is not indexed and has had no impression since 2026-02-26.

What to change

  • Make the home page the one page for “content audit services”. It is the URL that held a page-one position for the query, and it is indexed.
  • Move anything worth keeping from /services/content-audit/, /content-audit/ and /content-audit-services-guide/ into the home page, then 301 each of the three to /. That is three rules in static/_redirects, which is empty today. After the deploy, check that both the slash and the no-slash form of each old URL reach / in one 301.
  • Keep /get-started/, and rewrite its title and H1 to describe what the page does, without “content audit services”. The other choice is to redirect it too, which sends the clearest signal but removes the URL Google shows most for the query today. I would keep it; this is your call.
  • In the footer, point every link at the final URL with its trailing slash, and drop the links to the redirected pages. All 16 of the footer's links answer a 301 today.

Impact: high for this site

It is the query that names what the site sells, and the one where the home page has averaged a page-one position (9.9 from 2026-02-01 to 2026-05-10). A clear limit: I cannot show that consolidating the pages brings the May position back. The duplicate pages already existed while the home page ranked around 10, and the repository has no commit between 2026-01-13 and 2026-08-12, so I found no site change that lines up with the drop. What the change does is stop asking Google to choose between five pages for one query.

Effort: low to medium

Three redirect rules, one title and H1, one footer component with 16 links, and an editor's pass to move content into the home page.

Number to watch

  • Position and impressions of https://audit-content.com/ for “content audit services”: 27 impressions at position 58.6 from 2026-07-27 to 2026-10-24. Over the 16 months to 2026-10-15: 2,627 impressions at 33.2.
  • URLs Google shows for the query: 3 from 2026-07-27 to 2026-10-24; the aim is 1. The no-slash /content-audit-services-guide first appeared on 2026-10-16, and I did not find what caused it.

3. The resource library is cut off from the rest of the site

Group: high impact, more work.

Affected

The library sections, 92 URLs in the sitemap, with the number Google indexed on 2026-10-27:

  • /tools/: 25 URLs, 1 indexed
  • /templates/: 24 URLs, 1 indexed
  • /guides/: 22 URLs, 1 indexed
  • /downloads/: 9 URLs, 1 indexed
  • /checklists/: 7 URLs, 0 indexed
  • /resources/: 4 URLs, 0 indexed
  • /calculators/: 1 URL, 0 indexed

What I found

  • 69 of the 92 pages have no link from any other page in the sitemap, so the sitemap is the only on-site path to them that I found. None of the seven sections has an index page: /tools/, /guides/ and the rest each answer 404.
  • Google indexes 4 of the 92, and each of those 4 has at least one internal link.
  • 9 of the 92 earned an impression from 2026-07-27 to 2026-10-24. 29 are not indexed and earned no impression in the 12 months from 2025-10-25 to 2026-10-24.
  • Near duplicates: /downloads/scoping-checklist/ and /tools/scoping-checklist/ (same title), /guides/tool-comparison/ and /resources/tool-comparison/, /guides/resource-planning/ and /templates/resource-planning/, /calculators/priority-scoring/ and /templates/priority-scoring/, and five stakeholder pages (/templates/stakeholder-alignment/, /templates/stakeholder-comms/, /templates/stakeholder-communication/, /templates/stakeholder-raci/, /resources/stakeholder-alignment/).
  • 43 internal links on 30 pages point at URLs that answer 404, 29 of those pages in the library. Examples: /services/content-strategy, /templates/gantt-chart, /guides.
  • 551 of the site's 1,859 internal links go through a 301 because they leave off the trailing slash. 469 of them point at one of the 16 URLs the footer links. Fix 2 changes the footer; the rest of these links sit in individual page files.

What to change

  • Decide each of the 92 pages: keep, merge or remove. My starting point: remove the 29 that are not indexed and had no impression in 12 months, each with a 301 to the closest kept page, and take them out of the sitemap. Merge each duplicate group into one page and redirect the others to it.
  • Build one library index page that links every kept page, and link each kept page from at least one related page.
  • Fix or remove the 43 broken links, and change the remaining no-slash links to the final URL.

Impact: high, with uncertainty

Search Console shows the library has reached searchers: in the 16 months to 2026-10-15, /guides/tool-comparison/ earned 5,168 impressions and /templates/seo-audit-checklist/ 3,246, though the second has had none since 2026-01-13 and is no longer indexed. When Google indexes 4 of 92 pages and 69 of them have no internal link, I read that as Google seeing no reason to keep most of them. I cannot say how many pages Google will index after the change.

Effort: high

92 keep, merge or remove decisions, up to 29 redirect rules plus the merges, a new library index page, and link edits on 30 pages.

Number to watch

  • Indexed library URLs in URL Inspection: 4 of 92 on 2026-10-27.
  • Library URLs with no internal link from another page (crawl): 69 of 92 on 2026-10-27; the aim is 0 for every kept page.
  • Library URLs with any impression in the last 90 days: 9 of 92, from 2026-07-27 to 2026-10-24.
  • Internal links to 404 URLs: 43 on 2026-10-27; to redirecting URLs: 551 of 1,859.

A plan like this for your site

I audit one website: its technical SEO, its content and how it appears in AI search, using your own Search Console data and, if you give access, your analytics.

The full report holds the evidence behind each finding and the checks that needed no action. The plan ranks every fix the way this excerpt does.
